Peer Review Policy

The Journal of Electrochemical Science and Hydrogen Technology (JESHT) follows a rigorous and transparent peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, scientific validity, and relevance of published research. The journal follows established principles of responsible peer review and publication ethics, including the ethical guidance provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Initial Editorial Assessment

All submitted manuscripts are first evaluated by the editorial team to determine whether they fall within the journal's scope and meet the basic requirements for scholarly publication. The initial assessment may consider the manuscript's originality, scientific significance, methodological quality, ethical requirements, presentation, and compliance with the journal's submission guidelines.

Manuscripts that are clearly outside the journal's scope or do not meet the basic submission requirements may be rejected before external peer review.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial assessment are normally sent to at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area. JESHT generally uses a single-anonymized peer review process, in which the identities of reviewers are not disclosed to authors.

Reviewers are selected based on their subject expertise, research experience, and ability to provide an objective assessment. Reviewers are expected to maintain confidentiality, disclose potential conflicts of interest, and provide constructive, unbiased, and scientifically justified comments.

Review Criteria

Reviewers may be asked to evaluate the following aspects of a manuscript:

  • Originality and significance of the research

  • Relevance to the journal's scope

  • Scientific and technical quality

  • Adequacy of methodology and experimental design

  • Accuracy and reliability of results

  • Interpretation and discussion of findings

  • Quality of figures, tables, and supporting information

  • Appropriate use of references

  • Clarity and organization of the manuscript

  • Ethical and research-integrity considerations

  • Reproducibility and transparency, where applicable

Editorial Decisions

Based on the reviewers' reports and the editor's independent assessment, a manuscript may receive one of the following decisions:

  • Accept

  • Minor Revision

  • Major Revision

  • Reject

The final editorial decision is made by the responsible editor and is based on the overall scientific assessment of the manuscript. Reviewer recommendations are considered carefully but do not automatically determine the final decision.

Revisions

When revisions are requested, authors should respond to reviewers' comments clearly and systematically. Authors may be asked to provide a detailed response explaining how each issue has been addressed and identifying any changes made to the manuscript.

A revised manuscript may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.

Confidentiality and Reviewer Ethics

Reviewers must treat submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. They should not disclose, copy, use, or distribute unpublished information from a manuscript without appropriate permission. Reviewers must also declare any actual or potential conflict of interest and should decline an assignment when they cannot provide an impartial assessment.

Appeals

Authors who believe that an editorial decision resulted from a significant misunderstanding or procedural error may submit an appeal to the editorial office. Appeals should provide clear and specific reasons and, where appropriate, address factual or procedural issues concerning the decision. Appeals will be considered by the editorial team independently and may be referred to an additional editor or reviewer when appropriate.

Review Integrity

JESHT does not guarantee acceptance of submitted manuscripts. Editorial decisions are based on scholarly and scientific considerations, and the journal aims to conduct peer review in a fair, objective, confidential, and timely manner. The journal's peer review procedures are designed to promote the integrity and reliability of the scholarly record.
