Abstract

Tax system transparency has emerged as a fundamental component of effective tax administration and a significant determinant of voluntary tax compliance across developed and developing economies. A transparent tax system enhances taxpayers' confidence by ensuring that tax laws, procedures, assessments, and government expenditures are communicated clearly and administered fairly. When taxpayers understand how taxes are calculated, collected, and utilized, they are more likely to perceive the tax system as legitimate and equitable, thereby strengthening their willingness to comply voluntarily rather than through enforcement alone. This study examines the role of tax system transparency in improving voluntary tax compliance by reviewing existing theoretical and empirical literature and adopting a qualitative research methodology based on secondary data. The findings indicate that transparency positively influences taxpayers' trust in government institutions, reduces information asymmetry, minimizes opportunities for corruption, and encourages ethical tax behavior. Furthermore, transparent tax policies improve taxpayer awareness, simplify compliance procedures, and increase perceptions of fairness, ultimately contributing to higher compliance rates. The study concludes that governments should prioritize transparent tax administration, strengthen public accountability, and improve communication strategies to foster sustainable voluntary tax compliance and enhance overall revenue collection
